These advertisements are people who are paying the search engine to show their site. If the customer were to click on one of these advertisements, the owner of the ad is charged a certain amount.


The amount that the business is charged for that customer clicking onto their site varies by industry and location. A positive to this type of online marketing is that you are targeting direct. You are basically targeting people who are already looking for your product or service. This helps to assure that you aren’t bothering people minding their own business and the people who actually click on the site have a legitimate reason for doing so.

The down side to this type of online marketing is that it is very hard to track the actual clicks you receive. For all you know, a competitor may be the one who clicked on your site. This will still end up costing you money and zapping from your advertising budget. Also, this type of online marketing is not guaranteed to target the appropriate crowd. For example, if you want to advertise for “Iphone repairs in Los Angeles”, your advertisement may also show up for people who type in “Ipad repairs in Los Angeles”. While this is similar to the service you are offering, it isn’t the same exact thing. So that customer may or may not decide to call you even if he or she has already clicked on your advertisement.


Online Marketing can pay off if you know how to approach it correctly. You want to be able to be sure that you are going after the right crowd without breaking your advertisement budget. If you can maximize the efficiency of your online marketing campaign, the rewards can make a huge difference on your company.
