Jurassic SEO

Jurassic SEO

How many SEO companies are still performing SEO techniques that are from the Jurassic era? This year I have been reading many services and blog posts from SEO companies and I cannot believe they are charging website owners a small fortune on techniques that could potentially have them removed from Google! In this article I will go through a few out of date techniques that companies are still performing on their clients website.

I have research 75 SEO companies and reviewed their services. Below are the most common Jurassic SEO techniques still performed today.

Keyword Stuffing

Keyword stuffing, or keyword density, is a technique where you repeat your keywords as many times as possible within your content. The target is to repeat your keyword a certain number of times so your keyword density will be around 8%.

Jurassic Keyword Stuffing

Keyword density has been redundant for over 5 years now! Having your keywords repeated over and over again will have your site regarded as spam and you will lose rankings, potentially being removed from Google’s search results altogether!

Your content should flow with your keywords inserted naturally a couple of times. Never force or stuff keywords in your content, as it will have a negative effect on your rankings.

From 75 SEO companies researched, 52 still offer this service.

Micro Sites

I cannot believe some SEO companies still believe micro sites help rankings and traffic! If you do not know what micro sites are, they websites created by the SEOer, which contains a few of pages such as homepage, services and contact. Every page has a high keyword density for a specific keyword, which are over optimized to the point where the content doesn’t even make sense!

Even the domain name is an exact match to their targeted keyword. Obviously they are not aware of the Google EMD Update (Exact Match Domain). This update targets websites that have a keyword domain only to perform well on Google. The chances are you will never see these types of websites anymore when searching Google for one simple reason; the EMD update has removed them all!

From 75 SEO companies researched, 27 still offer this service.

Directory Submissions

98% of website directories are spam and 92% of these directories have been removed from Google’s indexed altogether due to Google Penguin and Panda updates. Link Directories are websites created for the sole purpose for giving out backlinks. There is no quality content on these sites, its just page after page of links.

Jurassic Link Directories

Link Directories are extinct, there are only a handful of directories worth submitting to in 2013 but link directories should not be the main form of inbound marketing.

From 75 SEO companies researched, 66 still offer this service.

Onsite SEO

I saved the best for last! Optimizing your web pages helps Google distinguish what your website is about and what keywords you are looking to get ranked for. There are many factors to successfully complete your SEO for your web pages but out of the 75 SEO companies we researched, a whopping 71 of these companies only focus on meta tags! Your onsite SEO includes many factors including;

  • Content
  • Images
  • Internal linking
  • External linking
  • Conversion Rate Optimization
  • Load speed

These are just a few factors that need to be worked on for your onsite SEO. This article proofs you need to be very careful and research an SEO company prior to giving them your money. Many of them are still working in the Jurassic age of SEO!
