How Internet Marketing is Reshaping Our Country

Our world is becoming smaller and the Internet is to blame.  We no longer see customers as people walking into our store-fronts. Opportunity isn’t limited to an unexpected phone call. Thanks to the Internet, our customers can come from across the street or across the globe.  The world is just a click away.

How the Internet Started

The Internet began in the 1960’s as a method of sharing information remotely between different computers.  By the mid 1960’s scientists had figured out how to transfer information over telephone lines. A true precursor to our current Internet was released in 1968.

For many years after that, the Internet remained a simplistic method of sharing data. There were no attracting people to the information. People came online to find specific information or share specific information. It wasn’t entertaining. There was about as much frill involved as adding 1 and 1 to equal 2.

When the general public began to use the Internet it all changed. People began exchanging different data. Instead of merely sharing information, they began connecting with the users who shared it. People started to come to the Internet looking to be entertained. Everything had changed.

What Internet Marketing Did

Internet Marketing taught companies the potential of the World Wide Web. They saw that people were coming to the Internet to be entertained and informed. As the accessibility to the Internet improved, the amount of people using it did also. Companies knew that the Internet was a great place to be connected with large amounts of people.

Internet Marketing emerged as a type of marketing specific to the potential customers available online. It is a specific type or marketing designed to fit the environment that is online. Unlike television marketing or print advertisement, internet marketing is made to be both entertaining and informative.

With Internet marketing, customers can learn about new opportunities without it being too distracting to their overall experience. With the most effective types of internet marketing, consumers will seek out your message rather than you having to find them.

What This Means for Businesses

Internet marketing provides an easy and effective way to market your business. Because it’s online it also does it on a global scale. This means that the local customer you are marketing to may be seeing your message as well as the potential customer in another country. You can target your message, but there’s hardly any way to prevent them from being able to see it.

Our country is no longer limited by geographic boundaries, and our markets are no longer limited by our countries. We can sell across the street or across the world. It’s all a matter of a few clicks and some compelling content.

Brick and mortar stores are decreasing by large numbers each and every year. Don’t believe me? Go to a local mall and see how many people are there. Malls, shopping outlets, and department stores are becoming more of a ghost town. For many of the shoppers who still visit these physical locations, they have become more of a large showroom for products they can buy online for cheaper.

The competitiveness of online shopping is in full force, driving down prices and helping consumers buy what they want at the absolute lowest price. We at Funnel Boost Media suspect that this trend will continue for the next several years. Along with this, we will see a large uprising in digital only stores and demise of physical store locations.

Scary huh? The older generation may be worried by these predictions, but sadly, this is the way the future is looking and how America will be for our youth. It’s time to embrace the online marketing world before it sneaks up on you and throws you for a ride you weren’t prepared for.
