New Facebook Timeline, Subscribe and Latest Changes – How You Can Take an Advantage of Them

 

Lots of us were frustrated when Facebook changes were announced. Seems like not long ago we got used to the new profile look and feel and… Again! Some of those changes might be confusing, some might not be noticed just yet, but most of them are beneficial, especially for those in business. If you use the features to the fullest extent, you can use them in your favour.

The new features on both profile and new timelines allow you to build a strong profile about them and combine both personal aspects and strong aspects of your business, showcase your abilities and skills to the millions of users the social giant Facebook has.

There are several ways the new makeover can be used in your favour. First of all, the Facebook change revolves around showcasing quality content.  This means that if you have good content, you can benefit from the new interface.

Let’s have a look at them one by one.

  • Make lists and share your content only with those you want. I have to admit, it is not one of the newest changes, but for you to better understand the new changes, look at it again. Did you know that you can “sort” your Facebook friends to lists? It’s not the most romantic thing to tell them, but they do not need to know. Lists have been on Facebook profiles for a few years, but recently, inspired by Google + circles, Facebook introduced “smart lists”. Your family members, colleagues and former colleagues, classmates from schools can be automatically added to those lists. You can also have friends lists by the location, by interests, even by continents – especially those, building their businesses internationally. What does that give you? Well, there might be info or private pictures, that you only want to share with your family – and Facebook allows you to do that. You might want to share a post that is relevant only to your connections in US – you can easily do that, if you have a list with people living in US. You can choose to share some of the content with public and the benefits of that I will discuss further.
  • The new “subscribe” button allows others to subscribe to your posts and guarantees you more exposure. At this stage, some Facebook users are already maxed out at their 5,000 limit. Some are strictly accepting only close friends they know very well. The new “subscribe” button will allow you to share your public updates with anyone who finds you interesting. When posting updates, you can choose who to show it to. Select from friends, lists as discussed above, public or custom. Custom allows you to exclude certain people or lists of people. You have full control over who you share the content with.
    But there is more! When subscribing to someone’s updates you can choose subscribe to all updates, most updates or the most important ones only.
  • Now that Highlighted Stories has taken the place of Top News, users now have the possibility to see some content featured. If you are creating a relevant and interesting content, this fantastic feature helps you get more exposure. What do people like on Facebook? Well, Facebook is a positive and visual place. So, get more attention by posting anything that is visual or one of 3 E’s: a content that Entertain, Educates and Empowers. Make your Facebook updates content fun, interesting and encouraging, let the reader feel like they’re learning something valuable that will help them succeed and invite them to take action.
  • You will now see that the News Feed has a Real-Time Ticker to view activity of your friends. You’ll see this at the top right of the screen when you open your News Feed. A simple mouse-over will let you post a comment, like a page, subscribe to a feed, update status, watch a video and more. What’s great about it – that the viewer will never have to leave the page they are on since it opens in a new window when you click on it. Isn’t this just so much easier?
  • Good news for novelists – you can now write posts on Facebook with more than 63.206 characters, that include status updates, group and wall posts. A typical novel is 500.000 characters, so 9 posts should be enough to publish it on Facebook.
  • I am sure you have already seen the new Timeline Profile? It’s another Facebook change that can better showcase your content on your profile by expanding posts, you want to feature.
  • Let’s take a look at the Timeline Cover Photo feature.  This is a photo that goes across the top of your page. This is something you can get very creative with. Spend some time and put some thought into it and get it designed. For those in business, Cover photo is a great way of branding and representing yourself.
