Facebook Has Reached The 1 Billion Users Landmark. What’s NEXT?

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, announced in October 2012, that Facebook has finally reached the iconic 1 billion landmark, and has achieved a major milestone on its way. The news were complemented with a few changes.

Critics often complained that Facebook has never been able to match up to the class of Google when it comes to a few things, including video chatting and search, but now, as it has partnered with the best in the business when it comes to video chat –  Skype; and the search graph is well on its way.

These features, along with the news of 1 billion Facebook users, are certainly going direct  much heat on its rivals, especially Google.

While speaking about the numbers, it must be mentioned that the CEO Zuckerberg is already worth more than the Apple CEO and the Google co-founders, which is a huge achievement, considering the fact that Facebook shares behaviour on stock markets pleases not everyone… Facebook has an employee base of over 2000 people, and has moved from its earlier office at Palo Alto to Menlo Park in California, which used to be the home of Sun Microsystems some time ago.

Although the site has hit 1 billion mark, it’s worth remembering that the number of active users would be much fewer than that. Moreover, a user can have multiple profiles as long as they can provide a valid email addresses.  So figures claiming that Facebook users now occupy 14.3% of the world population should be taken with a pinch of salt!

However, the new changes are certainly going to bring a smile to the face of Facebook business page owners, as they provide them a greater incentive to engage in social media marketing. There is no other platform on earth which can promise a user base of 1 billion, and if you can advertise your product in the right way, there’s no looking back!

What is more interesting is that knowing Google over the years, they are sure to come up with something which changes the game altogether. They did the same with mailing and instant messaging, and it is a matter of time that they would want to do a similar thing to social networking. Whether or not they will be successful is a different matter altogether, but it’s certain to bring interesting new alternatives to business owners and managers.
