Blogging for Business – 6 Tips For Running A Popular Blog For Your Small Business

A blog can be a large part of a small business’ website and online presence. Running a successful blog can do wonders for your business’ visibility and credibility as well. Whether you’re just starting your blog or you’ve been blogging for ages, everyone could use some reminders.

Here are six timeless tips for online blogging:

Quality Content

Well this one’s obvious, but its importance cannot be overstated. This is the basic foundation of your blog out of which all of your success may grow. Without it, nothing else really matters. Make sure your posts are well written without any grammatical, typing or spelling errors.

Benefit Your Readers

Remember that your blog isn’t about you—it’s about your readers. Your content has to offer some benefit to your readers. Be informative, entertaining, helpful. Unless you hand your readers a reason to visit, follow, read, and share your blog, they aren’t likely to.

Create a schedule and stick to it. Posting regularly gives your readers something predictable and something to look forward to. They will know when to look out for your posts, when to check your site. Keep in mind, however, that everything you post should still be high quality content. Never post just for the sake of posting. Only make a schedule that you know you can keep up with. The only thing worse than not having a schedule is failing the one you set.

Blogs are a conversation, not an essay. If you engage your audience to make them feel like you are talking to them, with them, rather than at them, they will be much easier to win over and more likely to share the conversation with others. Ask your audience for input. Respond to their questions and comments. Be polite and courteous. These people are asking for your expertise and trusting your credibility and knowledge in the field. The least you can do is give it to them.

Promote It

Blogging isn’t something that you just hit “Send” and forget about. Writing the blog is only half the battle. You should be spending as much time promoting your material as you do writing it. It doesn’t matter if it’s the most brilliant writing on the planet; if no one knows about it, it’s just the silently falling tree in the forest. Share and spread your blog posts on every social media platform you have. If you have a subscriber emailing list, be sure you’re staying on top of that, sending out newsletters and updates when called for.

Be Yourself

Cliched as it sounds, you really need to find your own voice. The web has a sense of anonymity to it, and as a result the atmosphere can feel cold, inhuman and distanced. Fill up the space with your voice and be warmly welcoming your readers, extending your content and what you have to offer out to them. For most writers, it takes awhile to find the way to convey their authentic voice in their writing, but keep working at it and you’ll get it.
